Why a bat?

The Five Blessings

In China, bats are a symbol of good luck because of the similarity in sound between with words for 'bat' and 'good fortune.' The Wu fu is a common symbol with 5 bats around the 'shou' symbol for longevity. Each of the five bats is meant to represent each of the five blessings: a long life, health, wealth, love of virtue, and a peaceful death. While I can't guarantee these five blessings, my hope for my students is that they see their practice as a blessing and that it will have a positive impact on their health, leading to a long, fulfilling life.
